Open garbage vehicles hazardous for health

In complete disregard for public health and municipal rules, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is allowing ferrying of solid waste in open trucks which are not covered. On most roads, one can see trucks with heaps of rotten garbage moving along with traffic. Local residents have been constantly demanding that the municipality should remove solid waste during night hours but repeated requests are not been considered. Satish Kumar, Rehari Colony

The Bagh-e-Bahu Park, one of the important tourist destination because of its terraced garden needs immediate attention to beautify its basic infrastructure. For anyone visiting the park, the poor upkeep of the main entrance gate is enough to gauge the lack of interest by authorities. Ramshackle buses

The condition of the passenger buses in Srinagar is poor. Most the buses have worn-out seats and buckled flooring. The buses are ramshackle and rickety. The government should take steps to introduce new buses and enforce laws to condemn the old ones. The old buses also add to the air pollution levels. Shaista, Rajbagh

Poor hygiene at SKIMS

At the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, one can see hygiene is not being given priority in some wards. Attendants often complain of poor sanitation. The cleaning staff is hardly seen. The administration of the tertiary healthcare hospital should come out of their offices and make rounds of the wards to see for themselves how things are working.
