The police have been carrying out sustained “non-kinetic” operations aimed at preventing any attempts to disrupt the prevailing peace in the Union Territory.
Last month, in one of the largest security crackdowns in recent times, the Jammu and Kashmir Police detained around 1,500 individuals across the Valley for questioning. The police had said the action was part of a coordinated effort to “dismantle the terrorist support network.”
For several weeks, authorities have also been conducting searches of properties linked to Pakistan or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)-based Kashmiri natives, alongside cordon-and-search operations in various districts.
In addition, multiple raids have been carried out across the Valley as part of a crackdown on the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday reiterated that the government’s policy on terrorism remains one of zero tolerance. “Every available resource and means will be used to make Jammu and Kashmir terrorism-free. Those providing sanctuary, safe haven or any form of support to terrorists will have to pay a very heavy price,” he said.
