Jammu, February 1

The Pakistan army on Monday violated the ceasefire and shelled forward posts along the LoC in Poonch district, officials said. The Indian Army retaliated befittingly, they said. “At about 5.45 pm today, the Pakistan army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars in the Mankote sector,” a Defence spokesman said. — PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
