Pakistan violated the ceasefire for the second consecutive day along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, defence officials said on Saturday and added the Army responded appropriately.

On Friday morning, Pakistan had opened fire at multiple locations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting an “effective” response from the Army.

Army officials said that during the night of April 25–26, “unprovoked small firing was carried out by various Pakistan Army posts all across the Line of Control in Kashmir.”

“In response, Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms,” the officials said, adding that there were no casualties reported during the exchange.

The latest ceasefire violations come amid heightened tensions following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this week, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 tourists and one local resident.

In the wake of the attack, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Kashmir on Friday to assess the situation.

He was briefed by the Srinagar-based 15 Corps Commander regarding the current security scenario, including Pakistan’s ceasefire violations in north Kashmir and other areas along the LoC, and the Indian Army’s measured response.
