Jammu, June 9

The All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference has appealed to the Prime Minister and the Union Territory administration to immediately provide security to the sarpanches and panches as they were being targeted by militants.

During a press conference here on Tuesday, president, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), Anil Sharma, said while all bureaucrats, former legislators and other officials had been provided security, the panches and sarpanches, who formed the grassroots segment of democracy, were left at the mercy of the perpetrators of crime from across the border.

“So many panches and sarpanches have either been killed or targeted by the militant organisations run by Syed Salahuddin and Masood Azhar from across the border, but no security has been provided to them,” said Sharma.

He said the JKPCC had been serving the people for the past 10 years and had lost many people due to the dastardly acts of militants.
