PoJK refugees support CAA, demand pending compensation

Displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir living in camps and other areas today took out a protest march and demanded for immediate release of the pending amount of compensation announced by the Centre in their favour.

The displaced persons, who were affected in 1947, 1965 and 1971, also supported the Citizenship Amendment Act passed by both the Houses of Parliament and appealed to the people to shun the path of violence.

Led by the PoJK DPs Front president, Capt (retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib, the protesters said the displaced persons had been struggling since 1947 and had suffered losses to their properties during the Pak aggression of 1947.

“After a long struggle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned Rs 2,000 crore for disbursement among PoJK refugees but the allotted amount has been distributed to a small number of families so far. The process of identification of families has been going on at a slow pace due to lack of previous documents which are not available with claimants,” Chib said.

He requested the government to immediately release pending amount which was recommended by the Joint Parliament Committee of India as per their recommendations.
