In a surprising move, a local digital news network in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK) conducted an interview with Shamsher Khan, a top “commander” of Hizbul Mujahideen, an organisation designated as a terrorist group by the European Union, India, Canada, and the US.
In a video uploaded by ‘JK Bol’, the host can be seen commending the terrorist’s actions and his involvement in activities in the Valley, portraying them in a positive light. The extremist explicitly discusses his organisation’s past acts of terrorism and outlines their future sinister plans. Shamsher is heard saying: “The declaration of Burhan Wani as a hero by Pakistan’s PM at the UN holds significant importance.”
Discussing guerrilla warfare and the origins of insurgency in the 1990s, he remarks: “Our objective was to actively confront the Indian Army and prevent them from being at ease.”
The interview comes at a time when terrorist activities are being carried out in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, five Army personnel lost their lives in an ambush in Kathua.
