Poll panel issues notification for second phase

The Election Commission on Thursday issued poll notification for the second phase of the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of J&K. An official spokesperson said 26 constituencies in the districts of Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch will go to polls in the second phase.

Candidates can file nominations for these segments till September 5. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would take place on September 6, while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is September 9. Voting will be held in these constituencies on September 25 from 7 am to 6 pm.

Officials said 15 Assembly constituencies comprising Kangan (ST), Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Lal Chowk, Channapora, Zadibal, Eidgah, Central Shalteng, Budgam, Beerwah, Khansahib, Chrar-I-Sharief and Chadoora will go to polls in various districts of Kashmir division.

In Jammu division, 11 Assembly segments — Gulabgarh (ST), Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Kalakote-Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri (ST), Budhal (ST), Thannamandi (ST), Surankote (ST), Poonch Haveli and Mehdhar (ST) — are scheduled to go to polls in the second phase of the electoral process.
