Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh, brother of the jailed head of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and Member of Parliament (MP) Engineer Abdul Rashid, will contest the Assembly poll from the Langate constituency.

The AIP released a list of nine candidates on Saturday — Muneer Khan from Uri, Mohammad Muzaffar Dar from Rafiabad, Advocate Mursaleen from Sopore, Peerzada Firdous from Kupwara, Adil Nazir Khan from Gulmarg, Jehangeer Khan from Khansahib, Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh from Langate, Abdul Majid Banday from Handwara and Ashok Kumar Raina from Chamb.

Abdul Rashid himself used to contest from Langate in the erstwhile state of J&K. Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh has been a teacher for the past two decades and recently took voluntary retirement to contest in the Assembly elections.
