The Ladakh administration has asked the Reserve Bank of India to train the local policemen in identifying fake currency notes. Banks have been asked to use currency sorting machines. A high-level security committee meeting was held in Leh in which Umang Narula, Adviser to Lieutenant Governor, discussed the fake currency issue.

RBI’s Regional Director Kamal P Patnaik, DIG Sheikh Junaid Mehmood and others discussed security arrangements at the currency chests, ATMs, issues pertaining to fake currency notes and market intelligence.

Narula said digital payment would help in reducing the dependency on cash transactions in Ladakh. He requested the RBI to conduct training programmes for the police personnel in detecting fake currency notes.

Kamal P Patnaik asked the banks to supply fresh banknotes in their respective ATMs and also replace the old ATMs.
