Jammu, July 30
Due to incessant rainfall in parts of Leh, flashfloods were triggered causing damage to property in Lamayuru and Lingshed villages last night. No loss of life was reported during the incident.
An official spokesperson of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh stated, “In an unfortunate incident last night due to heavy rainfall, massive flashfloods at Lamayuru and Lingshed villages caused damage to public and private property as well as roads”.
LAHDC chairman/chief executive councillor Tashi Gyalson and Leh district administration activated response teams and provided immediate relief and restoration. Additionally, CEC has ordered urgent restoration of the Lamayuru road and dispatched a team to assess the situation in the village area.
“Similarly, on the direction of CEC, an assessment team has been sent to the damaged area of Lingshed village comprising the SDM, tehsildar and all sub divisional officers for the restoration of affected area,” the spokesperson said.
All sub-divisional officers, including those from Nubra, Changthang, Khaltse, and Leh subdivisions, have been instructed to remain on high alert. Tashi Gyalson assured all the flood victims of his support and also instructed all the sub-divisional officials to assess the damage caused by the recent flashfloods in all the affected villages and ensure timely restoration and provision of relief materials to the flood victims including due compensation measures also.
Meteorological Centre of Ladakh has issued a fresh warning to the residents stating that intense shower can trigger flashfloods and mudslides. The centre asked the residents to avoid flashflood prone areas for next one week.
