The police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Tuesday said they have arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, and seized 964 gm of a heroin-like substance valued at nearly Rs 1 crore.

Baramulla police carried out a targeted operation near GMC Baramulla parking area around 7 pm on Monday. During the operation, the team intercepted two suspicious individuals — identified as Sobiya Bano, daughter of late Mohammad Sadiq Khan, and Tahir Ahmad Khan, both residents of Trikanjan, Boniyar.

The police said during their personal search, police recovered the contraband packed in two packets weighing 424 gm and 540 gm. Two mobile phones and a vehicle were also seized from their possession.

The police said a case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Baramulla police station. Further investigation is underway.

“Baramulla police reiterate their unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking from society and appeals to the public to extend cooperation by sharing information related to drug abuse or peddling in their areas,” the police said.
