The initiative is part of LAHDC’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the cultural and spiritual heritage of Ladakh. 16 major monasteries across the district have been identified for enhanced security, with trained personnel deployed and CCTV surveillance being introduced.

Gyalson underlined the need to preserve Ladakh’s monastic institutions as living heritage sites. “Monasteries house not only spiritual traditions but also invaluable cultural and historical assets. Ensuring their safety is a collective responsibility,” he said.

He added that a systematic framework has been laid out, including the deployment of trained guards, installation of CCTV systems, and coordination with the district police. He also mentioned that uniforms for the security personnel will be provided for both summer and winter seasons. “The cooperation extended by the district administration led by DC Santosh Sukhadeve and the concerned officials has made this initiative possible. Monasteries must also stay vigilant and coordinate with the deployed teams to strengthen the security protocol,” he added.

Gyalson personally felicitated the newly appointed security personnel and handed over their appointment letters during the session, marking the formal commencement of their duties.
