Senior civil and police officers on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations at the Maulana Azad Stadium — the venue of the main function in Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesperson said.

During the visit, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of the region Anand Jain and senior officials were apprised of the preparations made by different line departments as per their roles and responsibilities.

Taking a detailed look at the arrangements being made by the concerned departments, the Divisional Commissioner stressed on maintaining close synergy among the departments concerned while executing the plans. The departments were directed to ensure all arrangements on the ground well in advance.

The Divisional Commissioner and the ADGP took a detailed stock of security arrangements, traffic management, seating arrangements, decoration, power and water supply, sanitation, medicare, convenient parking spaces, shuttle service for citizens, barricading, frisking points and fire emergency. The officers concerned were instructed to follow the SOPs while executing their assigned tasks.

Rehearsals for the main event will commence from Thursday with the participation of contingents of the armed forces, school children, bands, besides troupes participating in the cultural programmes.

While inspecting the ongoing works at the main Pavilion, Kumar directed the Hospitality and Protocol Department to make available waterproof tentage and heating arrangements.

The Traffic Department was directed to formulate a traffic management plan, finalise parking spaces and notify the diversions on time for the convenience of the general public.

The JMC was directed to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue and functioning of street lights, while PWD was asked to expedite the renovation works at the venue and complete the same at the earliest.

The JPDCL was instructed to ensure installation of lights at specific points besides making arrangements of genset at the venue for power backup.
