A delegation from the J&K Sikh Coordination Committee met Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan today, asking for the installation of a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Srinagar.

Led by Shriman Mahant Manjit Singh, Chief of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, the delegation expressed gratitude to the UT administration, led by Lieutenant-Governor, for addressing longstanding issues of Sikhs.

These include the implementation of the Anand Marriage Act and the installation of a statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, a government spokesman.

The delegation presented a Charter of Demands to the L-G, which included the construction of Gurudwara Sahib at Boarding House Tral. They brought to the Lt. Governor’s attention issues related to Gurudwara property ownership, the allocation of land by District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committees under the Sikh Gurdwaras and Religious Endowment Act 1973, the government spokesman said.

The delegation sought the extension of benefits under SRO 425 to Sikhs residing in the Valley, land transfer under Section 254 C, and the installation of a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Srinagar. The L-G assured the delegation that the issues would be thoroughly examined for resolution.
