Four persons were killed in a blast in the Sopore area on Monday, said officials. The blast occurred inside the shop of a scrap dealer at Sher Colony in Sopore town of Baramulla district.

Police officials said when the incident took place, the scrap dealer was unloading a truck, which came from Ladakh. While two persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to the injuries later, they said.

Superintendent of Police Divya D said the deceased had been identified as Nazir Ahmad Nadroo (40), Aazim Ashraf Mir (20), Aadil Rashid Bhat (23) and Mohammad Azhar (25). They all were residents of Sher Colony.

“They got the scrap from Ladakh. The incident took place while they were unloading the material from the truck,” she said.

The police have registered a case. A senior police official said they were trying to find the cause of the explosion. A team of forensic experts had been rushed to the site.
