SSP calls for collective action against drugs

Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Joginder Singh Sambyal on Sunday asserted that better coordination among parents, teachers and police is a must to check growing drug menace among youth in the society.

While addressing an event on drug abuse organised by Team Jammu, a social group, the SSP said, “10 to 15 per cent of youth are drug addicts so the remaining population of society is duty bound to liberate this section from addiction. We are aggressively dealing with this 10 to 15 per cent involved in addiction or drug peddling, but the civil society as whole must come forward to save remaining 85 to 90 per cent youth from menace of drug abuse.”

The SSP further detailed a series of programmes underway to make the public aware of the ill effects of drug abuse.

SSP Sambyal was the chief guest while Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal presided over the event. SDPO Jammu West, Satish Bhardwaj, SDPO Gandhi Nagar, Sunil Singh Jasrotia, and SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Azad Manhas were also present.

Welcoming the L-G and CM’s concern over growing drug abuse, Zorawar Singh Jamwal asserted, “The L-G and CM’s concern should not remain mere concern but it must be translated in reality. The drug mafia has to be dealt with with iron hands to save the younger generation. The time has come to launch operation flush out against drug lords operating in J&K, especially Jammu province”.
