Senior politician and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who was released from house detention earlier this week, said restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir would be the immediate concern of mainstream politicians.

Mir urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government to release all political leaders who have been detained in jails or put under house arrest in wake of abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation J&K into two union territories on August 5.

“In the present scenario, some political leaders will raise their voice for the restoration of Article 370 and its corollary Article 35A but I think the immediate political concern will be the restoration of statehood of J&K,” Mir said in an exclusive interview with The Tribune. — TNS
