Jammu: Continuing its welfare initiatives at the time of the ongoing lockdown due to Covid threat, Team Jammu has come forward with another noble cause of donating blood to the needy.The Team Jammu volunteers, led by Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, are donating blood to the patients who are in severe need of the same because of certain ailments. These patients include the kids suffering of thalassemia, pregnant women and patients suffering from chronic diseases like cancer, whose parents approached Team Jammu. TNS

‘Jammu Judya, Jag Judya’ on social media

Jammu: In a first-of-its-kind initiative since the lockdown, a small video made in Dogri, entitled ‘Jammu Judya, Jag Judya’, is gathering wide appreciation from all. The video, made by VikramAditya group under AB Films, is dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his highly acclaimed vision of lockdown to defeat Covid. Doctors, health workers, police officials and local artistes form part of the video and are seen giving the message of sanitation, social distancing, and usage of masks as the strongest means of keeping coronavirus away. The concept, devised by Shailini and Shilakha, has been written in prose in Dogri by Vikram Sharma, while Aditya Bhanu has edited, devised and designed the 2.45-minute video. TNS

Gujjars hailed for milk supply

Jammu: The efforts of the Gujjars of Jammu by walking long distances to deliver milk on the doorstep of people is being appreciated by many. Since the lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25, the Gujjars hailing from various areas of Jammu have delivered milk and milk products to retail milk shops and residents in Jammu city every single day.The Gujjars are one of the main suppliers of milk to people and shops in Jammu.On normal days, they ferry milk in vans, but during the lockdown, many have been seen carrying milk cans on their heads. Locals shower petals on sanitary workers

Jammu: Even as the authorities have failed to equip them with proper protection gear, residents of Jammu have acknowledged the vital role being played by the safai karmacharis in maintaining cleanliness amid lockdown and Covid threat. Since the last week, residents of various wards have been felicitating safai karamcharis for playing an important role at this crucial time. The campaign was initiated by JMC councillor Narotam Sharma and now followed by people across the city. Residents gathered on their rooftops when sanitary workers were doing their routine job on the streets and showered flower petals on them and later councillor Narotam Sharma garlanded the sanitary workers. Similarly, in Rehari area, Arvind Gupta along with other residents felicitated sanitary workers by garlanding them and distributing masks. TNS

KU comes to aid of Health Dept

Srinagar: To help the Health Department in fighting Covid in the Valley, the University of Kashmir has assigned 10 research scholars to assist in testing at different hospitals of the region and 3,000 volunteers to help the civil administration in the current crisis. A notification issued by the Department of Health and Medical Education Department says that 10 research scholars from various departments have been deputed to assist the Health Department in fighting Covid. Seven researchers belong to the Department of Biotechnology rest from the other sciences departments. The Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Talat Ahmad during a recent meeting directed the Programme Coordinator, NSS, to devise a strategy to assist the respective administration in the efforts to combat Covid. Rural residents face food shortage

Jammu: A majority of the population living in villages in the Jammu and Kashmir UT is finding it difficult to arrange two square meals a day amid the lockdown. While social organisations, NGOs and government departments are providing ration and food to the needy in urban areas, people in rural areas are facing an acute shortage of ration. People of rural areas said not many volunteers had visited them to provide ration and food items to the poor, who have been without food for many days. “Few days ago, some persons from nearby areas had provided food packets to the poor, most of whom are daily earners — construction workers, vendors and rickshaw drivers. Since then, no one has come to distribute food,” said Nathu Ram, a resident of Hosla Chak village in Jammu district. TNS

Firm installs sanitisation tunnel

Jammu: Alpine Containers Private Limited, a leading packaging company of J&K, has developed and installed whole-body sanitisation walk-through tunnel for the safety of its workers and staff. Harish Gulati, Managing Director of the company, said the tunnel was equipped with high-pressure air operated pumps and nozzles which deliver a fine mist of sanitisation solution on the whole body. “The company took the pre-empting measure well before the lockdown was announced. Thermal screening and hand sanitisation was introduced in the second week of March itself, to safeguard the workers and staff,” Gulati said. TNS

73 sheep found dead in Udhampur

Udhampur: Much to the shock of villagers, as many as 73 sheep, goats and two horses were found dead in Meer village of Panchari tehsil of Udhampur under mysterious circumstances on Sunday morning. Officials of the Animal Husbandry Depertment, who visited the spot, have denied the presence of any wild animal as they did not find any injury mark on the corpses of animals. As per the prelimnary report of the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Udhampur, the deaths might have taken place due to hypothermia as there was a heavy rainfall on higher reaches and temprature dipped substantially. The department also carried the postmortem of these animals and detailed report is awaited. The Tehsildar, along with SHO Panchari, is monitoring the situation. OC
