A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir’s Sopore, police said on Saturday. This is the second operation in Sopore in the past two days.

Police said acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Rampora area of Sopore in Baramulla district, a joint anti-terrorist operation was launched by the police and security forces.

“During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place. Further details shall follow,” the police wrote on X.

Sources said a militant has been killed in the encounter and his identification and affiliation is being ascertained.

A police officer said they believe the slain militant is likely the one who had escaped from another encounter, which took place in the nearby Bandipora district in which one militant was killed. Search operations are underway.
