Thousands of people thronged temples in Jammu, especially the ancient Bahu Fort shrine on the first day of the New Year and prayed for peace and prosperity of the country.

People offered special prayers and wished each other during the day.

The police have also deployed special teams to deal with any ontoward incident and could be seen patrolling the roads and important spots in the city.

Apart from individual parties organised by the residents, some left for hill resorts such as Patnitop to celebrate the day.

Despite chilly weather conditions, young and old alike participated in welcoming 2020, with hope for a better future.
