Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested three persons for allegedly being involved in drug peddling from different districts of the Kashmir region.

In a statement issued here, the police said it is continuing its efforts to “eradicate the menace of drugs from the society and arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam, Baramulla and Ganderbal and recovered psychotropic, contraband substances from their possession.”

The police statement said in Budgam district, a police party during routine checking tried to stop a suspicious person. The police said he tried to flee from the spot but was “apprehended tactfully.”

“He has been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Sheikh of Sozieth, Goripora. During search, a charas-like substance weighing about 940 gms and 80 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon were recovered from his possession,” the police statement said.

In Baramulla, police at a checkpoint stopped a person, later identified as Noor Hussain Shah of Uri. “During his search, 9.46 kg of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from his possession,” said police.

In Ganderbal, the police received information through reliable sources that a person identified as Sajad Ahmad Sofi of Saloora was carrying contraband substance in his truck. “Acting swiftly, a special police team was constituted and the truck was stopped nearby. During the search, 16 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered and seized in the presence of an executive magistrate. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” the statement added.

The police said all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.
