Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said it achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting two notorious drug peddlers in Kishtwar district.

A statement by Kishtwar District Police in Jammu region said it achieved a breakthrough in its anti-drug campaign, codenamed “Operation Sanjeevani,” after the arrest of two notorious drug peddlers and the recovery of a heroin-like substance.

Kishtwar SSP Abdul Qayoom said that information was developed regarding the smuggling and sale of narcotics among the youth in the Akhyarabad Waseer Kund area of Kishtwar by a notorious drug peddler.

A police team raided the rented accommodation of the accused person and during the search, six grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession along with Rs 32,900 cash and aluminium foil.

In the evening, the police said a patrolling party from Shalimar police post noticed the suspicious behaviour of a person attempting to evade the patrol near Sarthal Morh, Kishtwar. “Acting swiftly, the team apprehended him, resulting in the recovery of a heroin-like substance weighing about two grams,” the police said.

While emphasising that the investigating officer has been instructed to thoroughly examine the backward and forward linkages in the case, including scrutinising the bank account statements of the accused persons, SSP’s statement said, “This is to ensure that all individuals involved in the illegal trade of narcotic substances are brought to justice under the relevant provisions of the law.”
