Srinagar, November 20

A third spell of rain and snow is expected across the Kashmir valley for a period of two days from Thursday, raising the possibility of another round of disruption of services, including road connectivity in the region.

The spell of rain and snow is expected to begin early Thursday morning and continue till late evening on Friday, an official of the Srinagar Meteorological Centre said.

Mukhtar Ahmad, deputy director of the centre, told The Tribune that plains of Kashmir would receive moderate rainfall while snowfall was expected over the mountainous areas of the region.

“Rainfall is likely in the plains of Kashmir and there is a possibility of snowfall in some hilly areas of Budgam. There will be snowfall in the higher reaches where there is expectation of snow,” the official said.

The expected spell of downpour in Kashmir will be third in November, which received unusually heavy volume of precipitation that marked the early arrival of the winter in the region.

The first spell of downpour was witnessed in November’s first week which caused widespread disruption across Kashmir as Srinagar received 133.5 mm of total precipitation during the three days of snowstorm.

It is for the second consecutive year that Kashmir has received multiple spells of rain and snowfall in November, both causing damages to orchards in the region.

The latest spell is also likely to cause disruptions in the region, including suspension of traffic between Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
