Security forces have strengthened vigil on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway ahead of the Independence Day. Vehicles, including trucks and private cars, going towards the Valley and coming towards Jammu are being frisked thoroughly.

Police and paramilitary forces in Udhampur district have increased their vigilance, especially along the NH. The authorities have imposed stringent security measures to prevent any untoward incident.

Special units of the J&K Police have been deployed to maintain strict surveillance in Udhampur and its surrounding areas. Checkpoints like Falata and Jakhani on the NH in Udhampur are being manned round the clock for thorough security checks and vehicle searches.

A senior police official of Udhampur said security had been tightened along the NH in the district to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. Northern Command of the Army is also located in Udhampur district.

The police official said apart from regular checkpoints, special check posts have been set up in coordination with security forces at various locations. The CRPF, CISF and other paramilitary forces are guarding sensitive locations along the highway.

Meanwhile, security forces have also set up checkpoints at various spots on the Pathankot-Jammu NH. The highway crosses from Kathua and Samba district where incidents of infiltration are on the rise for the past sometime.

Restrictions on traffic movement will also be imposed in some parts of Jammu city on the I-Day.
