Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organised a daylong workshop on “Gender champions for gender sensitisation and equality” to mark International Women’s Day. Dr Kamni Pathania, convener of the workshop and chairperson, GSCASH, welcomed Professor Anupama Vohra and also highlighted the theme and importance of Women’s Day. Prof Vohra, nodal officer, Gender Champions, University of Jammu, discussed the importance of gender champions in the university. She deliberated at length about various challenges that women have overcome and carved a niche for them in society.

Visit to rly tunnel construction site

Under academic-industry interaction, an industrial visit to the railway tunnel construction site, Bagha (Reasi), was arranged for the first year students of B.Tech, Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, Katra. Dr Balbir Singh, Faculty, SMVDU, coordinated the visit, accompanied by the senior faculty members, Dr Ankush Anand and Dr Sanjay Mohan Sharma, to the mega tunnelling project in 111-km Katra-Banihal section.

Social media marketing workshop

With the focus of imparting digital marketing skills, the Business School, University of Jammu, conducted a four-day workshop in the domain of “Social media marketing”. In the workshop, the students of second semester got the opportunity to have a four-day interaction session with Rajinder Gupta, an alumnus of the Business School, who has a vast experience in the corporate sector. The purpose of the workshop was to delve into the insights as to how Facebook can be identified as an important platform for a marketer to promote the product and services and enhance skills required for it.

Symposium on women empowerment

The Centre for Women Studies, Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, organised a poster-making competition and symposium on the theme “Impact of Internet & Social media on Women Empowerment” on the eve of International Women Day. Prof Assa Ram Sharma, Principal, GDC, Kathua, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Rachna, Director, CWS, in her welcome address explained about various activities organised by the CWS.

Faculty development event

A three-day-long faculty development programme (FDP) sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education for student induction on “Universal Human Values” was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. During the inaugural session, Prof M Eswaramoorthy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, delivered the welcome address and provided information about the programme.
