Regional Transport Officer Ravinder Singh Gill and Assistant Regional Transport Officer Sandeep Bharti, along with their team, inspected the vehicles passing through the escape channel of Mukerian Hydel Canal near Adda Jhir Da Khuh late night and impounded 17 overloaded tippers and trucks passing through the bridge.

The officials also impounded four tourist buses of Jammu and Kashmir for passing through Talwara without paying the Motor Vehicle Tax of Punjab. A fine of Rs 7.35 lakh was imposed on the vehicles under the Act.

The Talwara Hajipur Khana Roko Bhoomi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has been demanding a ban on vehicles passing through this area for long. Additional Superintending Engineer, Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Talwara, had also written a letter to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mukerian, requesting to stop the illegal movement of overloaded vehicles. The SDM had asked Regional Transport Officer, Hoshiarpur, Ravinder Singh Gill to take necessary action
