18-yr-old Ferozepur girl hangs herself

An 18-year-old girl, identified as Kirandeep Kaur, died by suicide late Tuesday night at Jalandhar Heights 1, here.

Kirandeep, originally from Ferozepur, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. She had been living with her distant aunt following the death of her father.

According to Gurwinder Singh, the in-charge of Jalandhar Heights police post, Kirandeep had been suffering from depression since her father’s death two months ago. Her mother had abandoned her when she was a child and with no siblings or close relatives, her paternal aunt, who resides in Italy, arranged for her stay with a distant relative in Jalandhar.

Police investigation concluded that depression was the sole reason behind Kirandeep’s decision to take her own life. Legal proceedings have been initiated following the completion of post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, this is the fourth suicide in Jalandhar within the past week. The other incidents include a Class XI student, a house help in Shiv Vihar and an employee at OM Visa Immigration, who died by suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of the building.
