19-year-old Nawanshahr boy gets pacemaker

Nawanshahr: A pacemaker was implanted in a 19-year-old boy, who was suffering from recurrent syncope, a rhythm abnormality of the heart, at a Nawanshahr hospital recently. The boy travelled from Canada to get treated here. The consultant cardiologist said the boy was diagnosed with a rhythm abnormality of heart and was found to have low pulse rate and heart block. He underwent conduction system pacing — a technique in which pacemaker lead is fixed to the left bundle of the heart. The technique prevents development of heart dysfunction (weak heart) which can develop over a long time in case of normal pacemaker implantation, said the doctor. Recurrent syncope refers to a diverse group of conditions where the autonomic nervous system suddenly fails to maintain either the blood pressure or heart rate resulting in insufficient cerebral perfusion and loss of consciousness. Muslims hold protest in Dasuya

Dasuya: The Muslim community and other religious groups gathered at the Jama Masjid in Dasuya on Friday and raised slogans against the Modi government over the recent remarks made by BJP leaders against Prophet Muhammad. The Dasuya administration had been on high alert around the mosque since morning. Maulvi Abdul Wasit said some forces want to destroy the communal harmony of the country but this will not be tolerated. Those who made wrong remarks on Muhammad Sahib should be given death penalty. The Muslim community chanted slogans against Modi and the Yogi government. On behalf of the Christian Front, Jagtar Gill said atrocities against minorities were on the rise during the Modi government. Two booked for dowry demand

Hoshiarpur: The Garhshankar police booked two persons on the charge of dowry demand on Thursday. Bhamiyan village resident Silki, lodged a complaint with the police against the accused, including her husband. She told the police that she was married to Sukhwinder Singh of Bajwara Kalan. She alleged that her husband used to harass her for demanding more dowry. When the demand was not fulfilled, he allegedly started harassing her mentally and physically. The police have registered a case against the accused husband and another person Satnam Singh of Bajwara Kalan. OC

Man ‘abuses’ girl, case registered

Hoshiarpur: The Mahilpur police booked a person for allegedly writing derogatory words on a wall against a girl. Harjinder Kaur of Gondpur village told the police that Tegh Bahadur, alias Tega, of Daduwal village allegedly wrote abusive words against her on a wall in the village. After registering the case, the police have started further action.
