Two motorcycle-borne youths were burnt alive after the bike they were riding caught fire after hitting a speeding Mercedes car from the rear near Atta canal (Goraya) late last night.

The car dragged the motorcycle for some distance following which the two-wheeler caught fire. The bikers, identified as Rajinder Singh (38), a resident of Katpalo village, and Gurpreet Singh Gopi, a resident of Ashahur village falling under the Phillaur police station, died on the spot.

The car dragged the motorcycle for some distance following which the two-wheeler caught fire.

The bikers, identified as Rajinder Singh (38), a resident of Katpalo village, and Gurpreet Singh Gopi, a resident of Ashahur village falling under the Phillaur police station, died on the spot.

The police have impounded the car and arrested its driver, identified as Dharampreet Singh. Further investigations were on in the case.

The bodies were handed over to the families after the post-mortem examination conducted at the Civil Hospital, Phillaur.

Cyclist dies in road mishap

Phagwara: A cyclist died on the spot after a speeding tractor-trailer hit him near the Bhogal petrol pump here on Monday evening. The deceased has been identified as Shubh Narain, a resident of Onkar Nagar, Phagwara. The police have registered a case against the driver of the tractor-trailer under Sections 279, 304-A, 338 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after autopsy conducted at the Civil Hospital in Phagwara on Tuesday. OC
