21 beneficiaries get prosthetic limbs at Red Cross camp

A free camp was organised by the District Red Cross Society in collaboration with Act Human Society, Ludhiana, at the Red Cross office for providing prosthetic limbs.

Twenty-one beneficiaries were provided free prosthetic limbs at the camp with the help of Act Human Society founder Harleen Kaur, General Manager Deep Kalra, Fupro, Mohali, founder Nimish Mehra, Gyan Singh and Surinder Kaur. These were the beneficiaries whose one or both legs were amputated due to an accident or other reasons. Earlier, a camp was organised on August 7 to identify these 21 beneficiaries, in which prosthetic limbs were prepared after taking their measurements.

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain attended the function as the chief guest. She praised the efforts of Act Human Society, Ludhiana, and said that the Red Cross Society of Hoshiarpur will continue to help handicapped persons by organising such camps in future as well. He thanked Act Human Society for supporting the Red Cross and said prosthetic limbs will now help these beneficiaries lead a normal life and earn their livelihood. Besides, prosthetic limbs will also increase the confidence of these beneficiaries.

Secretary, District Red Cross Society, Mangesh Sood said that on the occasion, the beneficiaries who received prosthetic legs were very happy. A female beneficiary said that due to an accident in 2002, both her legs were amputated.

It is through this camp that she had received prosthetic limbs. She requested the people of Hoshiarpur to provide support to Red Cross Society for organising such camps so that the needy can be helped. Assistant Commissioner Oashi Mandal, vice-president Rajiv Bajaj and Red Cross staff members were present on the occasion.
