As much as 2,600 litre of illicit liquor was seized by the Jalandhar police during an operation against five raw liquor establishments being run at Shahkot.

As many as 9 cases were registered against those making illicit liquor. One man has been arrested.

Under the directions of SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, the police conducted a special operation, CASO, under the 'War on Drugs' campaign against illicit liquor smugglers in Shahkot. The operation was led by SP, Investigation, Sarabjit Rai, and DSP Onkar Singh Brar. The police of Shahkot and Mehatpur jointly registered nine cases of which five cases were registered in Shahkot. As many as five establishments operating raw liquor kilns were acted against and 2,600 litre of lahan and 1,18,000 ml of illicit liquor were recovered. The accused in these cases are still unknown.

In the four cases registered in Mehatpur, 4,91,250 ml of illicit liquor and ₹23,000 in cash were recovered. One accused has been arrested and the search for others is on.

As many as 13 drums, wood materials, tarpaulin and other materials being used for the preparation of illicit liquor were recovered by the Jalandhar police.

The police have appealed to the public to report any information related to drug trafficking or illegal business to the nearest police station or the 112 helpline without any fear.
