3 held with heroin, Rs 1L drug money

The Jalandhar (Rural) police have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 225 gram of heroin and Rs 1 lakh drug money in a special operation conducted on Friday night. The police also impounded a car used by the suspects for smuggling narcotics.

Those arrested were identified as Gurcharan Singh, alias Raju, Balwinder Singh, alias Mota, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Guri, all residents of Raipur Arayan falling under the Mehtpur police station in Jalandhar district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the arrests were made following a tip-off. He said a team led by Inspector Pushap Bali, in-charge, CIA staff, set up a checkpoint near Adda village in the Awadan area falling under the Lambra police station. The team intercepted a white car (bearing registration number PB10-GL-4080) coming from the Kala Sanghian side, the SSP said.

Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered 225 gram of heroin concealed in dashboard of the car, along with Rs 1 lakh in cash and an electronic weighing scale.

The SSP said, “The suspects have admitted that they supply heroin in different areas of Jalandhar district and Jagraon. Recently, they had procured 1 kg of heroin out of which 225 gram has been recovered by the police.”

A case under Sections 21B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects at the Lambra police station. “The main suspect Gurcharan Singh has cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act registered against him in Rajasthan and Punjab,” the SSP said. He said suspects would be produced in a court to seek police remand.
