The Satnampura police in Phagwara arrested three young men and recovered an illegal firearm, cartridges, and a vehicle during a routine check near Meheru village on Tuesday.

According to SSP Gaurav Toora, the arrests were made under the supervision of Chehru Police Post in-charge Jasbir Singh. Acting on specific inputs, a police team intercepted a car that was approaching from the Meheru side. Upon stopping the vehicle and conducting a search, the police found one country-made pistol and five rounds.

The three occupants of the car were taken into custody on the spot. They were later identified as Ritik, a resident of Salem Tabri, Ludhiana, Rahul Jaswal, resident of Nagar Tara Bara Road, Ludhiana and Jai Prakash, a resident of Laxmi Nagar

A case has been registered against the trio under the Arms Act and further investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapon and the motive behind their possession.

The police suspect that the accused may have been involved in criminal activities or were planning to use the firearm for unlawful purposes. The authorities are also examining the ownership of the seized car and whether it was used in any previous criminal incidents.

This arrest is part of the ongoing efforts by police to curb illegal weapons and criminal activity in the region.
