The Lohian Khas police have booked three travel agents for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 18 lakh on the pretext of sending her daughter abroad.

Station House Officer (SHO) Labh Singh said the accused had been identified as Satwindar Singh and Gurpiar Singh, residents of Basti Mithu, Jalandhar, and Jatindar Singh, a resident of Rajasansi village, Amritsar.

Jasbeer Singh, a resident of Sidhupur village, complained to the Jalandhar (rural) SSP that she had paid Rs 18 lakh to the accused for facilitating her daughter's migration abroad. However, neither was she sent abroad, nor did she get the money back.

The SHO said a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act 2014 has been registered against the accused after an inquiry, and further investigation is in progress.
