As part of the state’s ongoing initiative to improve connectivity between villages and towns, the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has sanctioned Rs 35.93 crore specifically for road projects in Chabbewal constituency.
MLA Dr Ishank Kumar Chabbewal further stated that, under the efforts of Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Lok Sabha MP from Hoshiarpur, several major roads have already been constructed in Chabbewal and other constituencies in the district. The ongoing projects will contribute to establishing a robust road network in the region, easing travel, saving time and reducing vehicle maintenance costs.
He informed that the Punjab Government completed 781 kilometres of roadworks under Item 5054 RB-10 during the financial year 2024–25, at an expenditure of Rs 503.02 crore. For the financial year 2025–26, the state has allocated Rs 663 crore for the construction of 840 kilometres of roads, of which 342 kilometres have already been completed. Additionally, Rs 190 crore has been earmarked for the construction of roads and bridges during the current financial year.
Dr Ishank Kumar said a comprehensive plan has been put in place to strengthen the road infrastructure in Chabbewal. Roads that had remained unrepaired for years were first identified, followed by the preparation of a blueprint for new roads based on public demand. This plan is now being implemented at a cost of Rs 35.93 crore.
The MLA added that since the Chabbewal Assembly constituency borders Himachal Pradesh, a significant number of people travel between the two states. The improved road network will facilitate trade and economic activity, providing a boost to the state’s economy.
