The Junior and Senior Punjab Badminton Championships commenced on Monday at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium. Over 350 players from 23 districts are competing in the event, showcasing the growing popularity of badminton in Punjab.

The championship was inaugurated by Sandeep Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, who emphasised the importance of sports in shaping the youth and building character. “Sports are important because they promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and social skills. They build discipline, resilience and teamwork while also reducing stress. Engaging in sports can lead to better academic performance and a more constructive use of time,” he said.

Ritin Khanna, honarary secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association (PBA), said the four-day championship would conclude on November 13. He added that the players would compete in 10 events, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories in various age categories. The winners will go on to represent Punjab at the upcoming National Championships in Itanagar and Vijayawada.
