The Horticulture Department is now getting ready to prepare 40,000 summer vegetable kits in Punjab. Last year, 25,000 kits were prepared.

As kitchen gardening has become favourite among among residents, seedlings of vegetables would also be given to customers.

Official said bottle gourd, sponge gourd, pumpkin, bitter gourd, tinda, long melon, lobia, cluster beans, ladyfinger and muskmelon would be given to residents. The cost of each kit has been fixed at Rs 80.

Two years ago, the department had come up with an informative handbook, “Vegetable Nutrition and Herbal Garden”, which was written by Dr Sukhdip Singh Hundal, Assistant Director, Horticulture-cum-Nodal Officer of kitchen gardening.
