4,300 participate in ‘One Race’ Jalandhar Half Marathon

The 4th Capital Small Finance Bank ‘One Race’ Jalandhar Half Marathon ‘Daur Jalandhar’ was organised at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on Sunday in which DC Himanshu Agarwal, former Cabinet Minister Amarjit Singh Samra, Capital Bank MD Sarvjit Singh Samra and Major DP Singh flagged off the 21.1 km runners at 6:40 am.

The 10-km runners were flagged off at 7 am and the 5 km runners at 7:30 am.

To encourage the runners, Capital Bank MD Sarvjit Singh Samra participated in the 10-km race. More than 4,300 runners of all age groups from Jalandhar and surrounding districts as well as Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mumbai participated in this race.

Winners of the races were given cash prizes of Rs. 4,50,000. The prizes were distributed by Asian Gold Medallist athlete and Arjuna Awardee S Sucha Singh and Sarvjit Singh Samra. Sucha Singh motivated the youth to participate more in sports. With the aim of spreading awareness about mental health, like last year, the run was started with a silent ‘Quiet Flag Off’ in collaboration with ‘Soch Autism Society of Punjab’ to allow autistic children to participate in the 3-km run.

Considering the participation of a large number of runners in Jalandhar, the race route was divided into two parts. The 21 km and 10 km runners started from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium and proceeded from Icon Mall via Cool Road to Urban Estate Phase-2 Market, Taj Food World via 66 Feet Road, Curo Mall, White Diamond, Jalandhar Heights, CT Institute and took a U-turn and reached Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on the same route. The 5-km runners started from Guru Gobind Singh Stadium and proceeded from Mall Road, Agarwal Dhaba, Johal Market, Income Tax Colony, Urban Estate-2 Market lights and reached Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on the same route.

In the men’s 21.1 km race in the half marathon, Lovepreet Singh broke the old race record of 1.06.06 seconds and secured the first position with a time of 1.04.05 seconds. Neeraj stood second and Ajit stood third. In the women’s category, Bholi stood first, Veera Puri stood second and Gurpreet Kaur stood third. Similarly, in the men’s 10-km race, Sandeep, Chetan Singh and Jatinder Singh (Punjab Police) stood first, second and third, while in the women’s category, Mandeep Kaur, Monica Oberoi and Rajneet Kaur stood first, second and third.

In the 5-km men’s race, Prabhjot Singh, Karan Singh and Raghav Jyot stood first, second and third and in the 5-km women’s race, Kaushin Pareek, Prachi Kumari and Vandana Kumari secured first, second and third positions. Apart from this, cash prizes were given to the runners who came first, second and third in each age group.

Samra said during the interaction that ‘One Race’ - Half Marathon has promoted fitness and sports culture in Jalandhar due to which such a large number of people participated in the marathon.

To make the run a success, Jalandhar administration, Jalandhar Police Commissionerate, Jalandhar Traffic Police, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, Running Club, Fortis Hospital, Thind Eye Hospital, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Doaba College, KMV Sanskriti School, Phulkari-Women of Jalandhar, Eklavya School, Castle Tuta, Soch Autism Society, Radio Mirchi, Soulmates Club, NCL City Walk, AGI Infra, Midland Microfin, CT Institute, Bisleri, Rosa Herbal and Roohafza provided support. Global Sikhs organised a turban langar on this occasion.
