The child's postmortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, on Thursday. According to sources, the facts have been confirmed in the post-mortem report, although Civil Surgeon Dr Seema Garg said according to the primary post-mortem report, there were many wounds on the body of the child and he was killed by strangulation. When asked about the sodomy, she said only this much information can be given at the moment. DSP, City, Devdutt Sharma confirmed this late in the evening and said the FIR registered also included the section related to sodomy.

After the post-mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family. The family took the body to their native village near Phagwara for cremation. Meanwhile, the police produced the accused in the court, which sent him to the two-day police remand.

There is an atmosphere of anger in the city over this heinous crime. The victim's family and various organisations took out a protest march in Hoshiarpur. The protesters blocked the road at Prabhat Chowk and staged a sit-in, affecting traffic in the entire area. Protesters demanded that the accused should be given the harshest punishment.

They said the criminal elements should be arrested. The organisations also demanded that the government should not make the identity cards of people from outside states on local addresses, so that the crime environment in Punjab can be stopped from increasing.

SP Mukesh Kumar, DSP Devdutt Sharma and SHO Gursahib Singh of Model Town police station met and assured them that the police will make every possible effort to get the harshest punishment to the accused. Mayor Surinder Kumar also reached the spot and met the protesters and shared his grief with the victim's family.
