As per the schedule released by the Punjab State Election Commission, elections for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti are being held on December 14. After the scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawals, a total of 662 candidates will contest the elections in Hoshiarpur district.

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that after the scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawals, 80 candidates remain in the fray for the Zila Parishad and 582 candidates for the Panchayat Samitis. She informed that 17 members of the Panchayat Samitis have been elected unopposed/unanimously.

She further stated that polling will be held on December 14 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm through ballot papers, for which the district administration is making elaborate arrangements. She added that the counting of votes will begin on December 17 at 8.00 am. She said that the district administration is fully committed to conducting the elections peacefully, fairly.
