The meeting was attended by MLAs Pargat Singh, Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia, Bawa Henry and halqa in-charges Rajinder Beri, Rajinder Singh and Dr Navjot Dahiya along with Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gautam Jain and officials from various departments.
Reviewing the reports regarding Central schemes, Channi pulled up the officials for not assuring 100-day job guarantee for 70,000 MGNREGA workers registered in the district. He said, "As per reports, they are getting job only for 30 days in a year which is not acceptable. The benefits of the Central schemes, including the PM Awas Yojana, are not reaching the beneficiaries. The survey for this scheme is to be done till March 31 but so far the officials have only completed 20 per cent of assessment work".
Channi also pointed out that the highway works were not being done as per the laid out specifications. "The commuters from Jalandhar to the Amritsar side are harassed. The locals are affected even more. Those travelling through Adampur have to undergo a harrowing experience", he pointed to the officials, seeking their immediate intervention into the matter.
The Jalandhar MP said, "The officials have still not submitted utilisation certificates (UCs) of works allocated by ex-MPs Santokh S Chaudhary and Sushil Rinku. The BDPOs have left works to the tune of Rs 80 lakh pending. Some of these works include purchase of 50 sets of gym equipment for Adampur."
Channi said, "I have got an allocation of Rs 5 crore under MPLAD fund. I have sent proposals to the tune of Rs 50 lakh in each of the 10 Assembly segments. I have made sure that there is equal distribution of grants in each area. I have also proposed to the MC that works could be done on 50:50 grant sharing basis for more progress in city areas."
