Construction of a new sports stadium costing Rs 10 lakh commenced today at Darvesh village in the Phagwara Assembly constituency. Former Punjab minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Joginder Singh Mann laid the foundation and initiated the project in the presence of villagers and local representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Mann said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government is prioritising holistic rural development while promoting sports infrastructure at the village level. He added that the Chief Minister envisions a sports stadium in every village so that young players do not have to travel long distances for practice and can pursue sports while staying away from drugs and other social evils.

Mann further stated that the Aam Aadmi Party government is working to gradually extend urban-level facilities to rural areas. Village sarpanch Amarjeet Singh praised Joginder Singh Mann and the Punjab government, noting that the upcoming stadium will greatly benefit local players and youth, who will now have a proper practice ground within their own village instead of relying on facilities in neighbouring areas or Phagwara city.

Prominent villagers present on the occasion included Surinder Singh Khalsa Numbardar, Simar Kumar, Jaswinder Singh and former block committee member Shaunki Ram.
