Jalandhar bypoll AAP candidate Sushil Rinku has made a phenomenal rise in his political journey in the past two decades.

He was a councillor till 2017, became a Congress MLA that year, switched the party and is now set to become the AAP MP from Jalandhar.

Helping AAP make a re-entry into the Lok Sabha, he is now one of the biggest Dalit leaders of the region.

After the demise of his father, Ram Lal, who remained a councillor three times, he stepped into his shoes in 2002 winning the MC poll for the Congress that year.

His family was a loyalist of former Congress MP Mahinder Singh Kaypee.

Rinku became the councillor twice and after he got elected as MLA, his wife Sunita Rinku became the councillor in the subsequent local bodies polls in January 2018.
