In the pre-quarterfinals, he pulled off a major upset by defeating the top-seeded player Tan Jai Jie of Malaysia in a thrilling three-set match, ending 21-16, 9-21, 24-26. In the quarterfinals, he continued his winning streak by defeating Tanawal Yimjit of Thailand with a scoreline of 27-25, 21-14.

Abhinav eventually bowed out in the semifinals against Christian Adinata of Indonesia. Notably, he is the only player from India to win a bronze medal at the Thailand International Badminton Series 2025.

A final-year BBA student at Subhratri University, Abhinav had also secured a bronze medal last month at the Senior National Championship held in Bhubaneswar. Prior to that, he won a silver medal in the Senior National Team Badminton Championship held in Bengaluru. Ritin Khanna, Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, congratulated Abhinav for his outstanding achievement.
