Accidental firing: Constable dies of gunshot in Nawanshahr courts complex

Constable Harvinder Singh, who had reportedly accompanied some undertrials at the Nawanshahr court complex, reportedly died of a gunshot injury in a washroom of the courts here this afternoon.
Posted at Pojewal police station, Constable Harvinder and his colleagues had brought two persons, accused in an attempt-to-murder case, to the courts when the incident occurred. The cop had gone to the washroom from where all of a sudden some sound of a bullet firing was heard.
As some lawyers around the washroom went inside, they saw a cop lying dead with a bullet fired from his rifle having pierced his head. The police are probing the matter, suspecting it to be a case of accidental firing.
In another incident, two armed youths brutally injured a youth from Kapuran Mohalla of Banga here this afternoon. The youth arrived by an SUV and hit a scooter on which three youths were riding. While the driver of the scooter and another youth fled, the assailants attacked Gurdeep Singh, chasing him in Bollywood style. Gurdeep tried to run away but the youth on the SUV followed him. As the victim tried to take shelter in a house, the two attackers caught and brought him in the middle of the road and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, leaving him injured.
As the incident happened, residents made videos of the incident but no one came to his rescue. After the assailants fled in the SUV, the victim was taken to a hospital. A case has been lodged.
