A video of this help also went viral on social media.

Some social activists in Kartarpur brought the plight of the man to the DSP's notice after which he decided to admit him to a hospital and get him treated until he was healthy.

The man, identified as Gurnan Singh Gama, resident of Bare Pind in Kartarpur, had no one to look after him. A severe infection in his left foot left him unable to sit or walk. The elderailway's son had died some years ago after which no one else was left in his family to take care of him.

Due to infection, all five fingers of the man's left foot had to be severed.

Dhogri said, "Some social activists had told me about the plight of the elderly man after which we admitted him to the hospital. As per our information, he had a severe infection in his foot and had no earnings, nor any member at home to take care of him. He didn't even have money to buy food. On top of poverty, his health condition rendered him immobile. I asked some of my friends to bring him to me from where we would take him. But on a duty visit, I met him on the road itself and we admitted him immediately to a private hospital in Jalandhar."

The DSP added, "Since the infection had spread, five of his fingers on his left foot had to be severed to prevent further infection. Doctors are also checking out the cause for the malaise, it may be due to diabetes or related reasons."

The DSP, along with his friends, has undertaken to bear all costs of the ongoing treatment of the man.

The DSP said, "It is our duty to help people. One day I too will retire. We will all be infirm in our old ages. It is imperative that help is extended to elderly who have health-related problems. This is the least we could do. My friends are also extending help. Doctors have said the man would need treatment for about 10 more days until he is healthy again."
