Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsPanic gripped village Bohani in Tehsil Phagwara, district Kapurthala, on Saturday morning when two unidentified assailants shot at and injured a local dairy worker, leaving him seriously injured. The incident occurred between 7.30 am and 7.45 am, when the victim, identified as Arun Kumar, a resident of Bohani, was on his routine milk delivery round.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, while confirming the incident, told this correspondent this morning that two men with their faces covered arrived on a motorcycle and fired multiple shots at Arun Kumar without warning. Three of the bullets struck the victim—one hitting his right hand, another his left leg, and a third his back—before the assailants fled the scene towards village Ranipur.
Local residents rushed to Arun Kumar’s aid and transported him to Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be stable, though he sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and checking possible escape routes that the assailants might have used. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Arun Kumar, who runs a small dairy business in the village, had no known enmity.
The SSP said that teams have been formed to track down the culprits and bring them to justice. “We are pursuing several leads. The
suspects will be identified soon,” he added.
