Attackers run car over youth, killing scooterist on the spot

Four persons attacked two youths, killing one of them while injuring his friend in village Narang Shahpur near Phagwara on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Daljit Singh and Sunny. The police had also impounded Innova bearing registration number PB-9X 6690 which was used by the accused for murder

The deceased was identified as Rohit of Nabi Abadi, Narang Shahpur, while the injured youth was identified as Rakesh Kumar. The injured was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. A minor altercation reportedly at the petrol station led to the crime.

Vipin Kumar, another friend of the deceased, told the police that they had gone on their scooter to a petrol station near the sugar mill, Phagwara. At the petrol station, they had a minor altercation with some youths in an Innova car.

When they were heading back home to their village on their scooter, the youths in the car chased them and hit their scooter from behind. When the two youths fell, the car ran over Rohit thrice, killing him on the spot. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.

The incident was reported to the police station, Satnampura. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, told this correspondent that the Phagwara police had identified the accused and registered a case under Section 103(1), BNS, against four — Daljit Singh, alias Billu of village Dhandha (Goraya), Sunny of village Atholi (Phagwara), Ravi of village Atholi and Harinderpal Singh of village Dhandha.

The police have arrested two youths. SSP Vatsala Gupta said a team consisting Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti and DSP Jaspreet Singh traced the accused in a few hours.The accused were identified as Daljit Singh and Sunny. She said the police had also impounded Innova bearing registration number PB-9X 6690 which was used by the accused for murder.

The police have handed over the body of the deceased to his family members.
