Audi crash: Jalandhar-based philanthropist comes to aid of auto driver’s kin

Coming to the aid of Kulwinder Kaur, wife of Jagdish Chander, the auto driver who was killed in the Audi car crash, Jalandhar-based philanthropist PC Sondhi has extended a help of Rs 10,000 to the family. Sondhi has extended a one-time monetary aid worth Rs 10,000 as well as well as an additional Rs 1,000 per month as pension for Kulwinder Kaur for a period of 12 months.

While the Audi crash took place on January 30, Chander was one of those who died in the crash.

His wife Kulwinder Kaur was left with the responsibility of bringing up their 11-year-old son, whose education was dependent upon his father’s income.

With earnings from his auto-rickshaw, the family had planned to ensure a comfortable life for his 11-year-old son. But his demise left his wife with no options. She now has the responsibility of supporting the household. Her son was recently admitted to a good school as his father wanted proper education for him. But with him gone, this educational goal seems unlikely to sustain.

Meanwhile, Govinda, the only survivor of the accident, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital after the accident, is making a gradual recovery. Govinda made sofas and took up odd jobs to make both ends meet. He was returning from work one day when the accident took place.

His sister Sapna said, “Me and my brother were also collectively bringing up our two nieces, who had lost their parents. Another of my sister is married. My brother still has body pain and finds it difficult to sit. I wanted to admit him to a private hospital, but without money that is difficult. The medical bills are going to be hefty in the coming months in order to nurse my brother back to good health. I have also not gone back to my job as I am taking care of him. So currently, we are left with no income. A man hit him and robbed us of our peace and income. Ideally, he should have been paying our bills.”

A Good Samaritan donated Rs 10,000 to Govinda’s family, after visiting them at the Civil Hospital recently.
